Gang Starr have released “Finishem,” a new single marking five years since their 2019 album One Of The Best Yet. The track features previously unreleased vocals from the late Guru paired with DJ Premier‘s signature production.
DJ Premier explains the new single’s origins: “As One Of The Best Yet approached its five-year mark, I felt compelled to create something new for this milestone. While searching through files, Guru’s hook ‘now I’m about to finishem, my rep alone could diminish’em’ caught my attention. I combined it with emotional instrumentals from Antman Wonder to craft the final piece.”
The duo’s influence spans three decades, with their pioneering fusion of jazz and hip-hop helping define the genre’s sound. Though Guru passed away in 2010, their catalog continues to resonate.
