E-A-Ski is giving listeners another piece of “Still Ill,” sharing a new video centered around the song’s second verse as the Oakland producer and emcee continues to roll out material from his forthcoming solo work.
The new clip follows the initial “Still Ill” preview E-A-Ski shared earlier this month, when he revealed he was working on a new project. That first glimpse offered an early indication that Ski was shifting some of his recent creative momentum back toward his own music; the newly released second-verse visual provides a more extended look at where the record is headed.
“Still Ill” also finds E-A-Ski stepping back in front of the microphone after a stretch in which much of his activity has centered on production, collaborations and studio work. It is familiar territory for the Oakland veteran, whose catalog has always existed on both sides of the boards.
That history reaches back to his early production work with Spice 1, including records from Spice 1 and 187 He Wrote, before expanding through collaborations with Master P, Ice Cube, MC Ren, Too $hort, Tech N9ne, WC, Nate Dogg and others. His own recording history includes cuts such as “Blast If I Have To,” “Showdown,” “Ride,” “They Know,” “Cruise Control” and “Nerve Of Y’all.”
The timing of “Still Ill” comes during another active period for Ski. He recently reconnected with Ice Cube behind the boards, producing “It’s My Ego” from Cube’s 2024 Man Down album, extending a working relationship that previously produced records including “Penitentiary” and “Still In The Kitchen.”
Ski has also been working extensively with Bay Area artist Mr. Jet Black on the upcoming Line In The Sand project, while continuing to expand his footprint beyond records. Earlier this year, he partnered with Mr. Hilbe and T.H.E. Company on the E-A-SKI B-50 microphone preamplifier with EQ, whose initial 40-unit presale sold out in just over an hour. That venture followed his previous collaboration with Rossum Electro on a limited-edition E-A-Ski SP-1200, which also sold through its entire production run.
With the second verse of “Still Ill” now out, E-A-Ski appears to be revealing the record piece by piece rather than simply dropping a conventional single preview. More importantly, the continued rollout adds another signal that new solo E-A-Ski music is moving closer.
No official release date for “Still Ill” or E-A-Ski’s new album has been announced.
