West Coast icon and pioneer Ice Cube has marked a significant milestone in his decades-spanning career with the release of “It’s My Ego,” the lead single from his upcoming album Man Down. The E-A-Ski produced track has achieved unprecedented success for the artist’s solo work, landing impressive positions on multiple Billboard charts.
The single debuted at #7 on Billboard’s Rap Digital Song Sales chart, representing Ice Cube’s third venture into the chart’s upper echelons. It simultaneously claimed the #8 position on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart, effectively doubling his total number of top 10 hits in that category.
While Ice Cube has previously reached higher chart positions, those achievements came through his collaboration with Mount Westmore, the supergroup featuring fellow rap legends Snoop Dogg, E-40, and Too Short. Their single “Big Subwoofer” peaked at #5 and #7 on the respective charts.
The success of “It’s My Ego” is particularly noteworthy given Ice Cube’s influential history in hip-hop. From his groundbreaking work with N.W.A in the late 1980s to his successful solo career beginning in 1990, Ice Cube has consistently evolved while maintaining his distinctive voice and social commentary.
As Ice Cube prepares to release Man Down later this month, this chart success suggests his influence in hip-hop remains as potent as ever, even after more than three decades in the industry.
