Ice Cube and Scarface, two hip-hop icons, have teamed for the “It’s My Ego 3Mix,” released today (January 24) via Lench Mob Records. The E-A-Ski-produced collaboration builds on Ice Cube’s recent album Man Down, which achieved Top 10 success across multiple Billboard charts.
Building on the original “It’s My Ego” track and its “Ego Maniacs” spin-off—which featured Busta Rhymes and Killer Mike—the new mix brings Scarface’s legendary touch to the project. Ice Cube explains that the collaboration emerged organically when his fellow hip-hop pioneer heard the track.
“We hit the fans with a banger on ‘It’s My Ego,’ followed up with the spin-off ‘Ego Maniacs,’ bringing Busta Rhymes reppin’ New York and Killer Mike holding it down for Atlanta. Now, when my homie Scarface heard it, he had to put his legendary touch on the 3Mix,” Ice Cube says in a press release statement.
Ice Cube, a founding member of N.W.A. and a multifaceted artist spanning music, film, and entrepreneurship, continues to push creative boundaries. Scarface, a founding member of the Geto Boys, has long been celebrated for his introspective and profound lyrical approach that reshaped hip-hop narratives.
Ice Cube and Scarface have a rich history of collaborating. In 1994, they joined forces on “Hand of the Dead Body” from Scarface’s 1994 album The Diary. Subsequently, they have collaborated on several notable tracks, including the Dr. Dre-produced “Game Over,” featuring Too Short & Dr. Dre, and the N.O. Joe-produced “The Geto” with Willie D and K.B. from the My Homies album, and Cube’s “Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It (Remix)” also featuring Nas.
