DJ Muggs Of Cypress Hill To Be Musical Composer For Upcoming Scott Bakula & Bella Thorne Indie Film ‘Divinity’

Soul Assassins leader and long-time Cypress Hill producer DJ Muggs is slated to serve as the musical composer for the upcoming indie film, Divinity, starring Scott Bakula, Bella Thorne, Chris Santos, Danielia Maximillian, Lydia Bielen, and Emily Willis. The film will be directed by  Steven Soderbergh and Eddie Alcazar.

Additional actors who are a part of the project include Stephen Dorff, Jason Genao, Moises Arias, Karrueche Tran, and Mike O’Hearn.

The legendary DJ Muggs produced the self-titled debut album for Cypress Hill in 1991 using jazz, R&B, psychedelic rock, and metal samples and solidified himself as a pioneering producer in the process. With the album released over a year before Dr. Dre came out with The Chronic, DJ Muggs and Cypress Hill had already crafted stoner anthems like “Light Another” and “Stoned Is the Way of the Walk”. While other hip-hop groups had yet to openly embrace smoking marijuana, Cypress Hill was making it culturally cool to do so.

Nearly three decades later DJ Muggs continues to put in an incredible amount of work. Throughout the last few years, the iconic producer has dropped projects with Cypress HillRoc MarcianoYelawolfMach Hommy, EtoMeyhem LaurenRigzCrimeapple, Jay Worthy, and others, while adding to a list of collaborations and credits that already include U2Depeche ModePlanet AsiaHouse Of PainDr. DreVan HalenPearl Jam, and Snoop Dogg among others.

Divinity follows otherworldly brothers (Genao and Arias) that are hellbent on stopping a mogul (Dorff) who is close to unraveling the secrets behind immortality.

The film includes elements of Alcazar’s “Metascope” technique which combines stop-motion animation and live-action sequences. The technique was featured in his short film The Vandal, a collaboration with Darren Aronofsky, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021.
