D Smoke recently dropped the new single & video to “Switch Up” featuring musician/songwriter Davion Farris. As fellow Inglewood native Farris sings a soulful hook, D Smoke conjures up Snoop Dogg-influenced lines like “With so much drama in the I-N-G, it’s kinda hard being D-S-M-O-K-E / But I, work harder than most / I barely get no shut-eye / The first off of the coast to do it like this, was I,”.
Inglewood, California’s own D Smoke made his mainstream breakthrough in 2019 as the first winner of the reality rap competition Rhythm & Flow. However, by that time, the bilingual multi-instrumentalist had already been busy on the scene for over a decade as both a songwriter and an underground figure influenced as much by west coast predecessors Kurupt and Snoop Dogg as well as gospel singers Kirk Franklin and Yolanda Adams.
