Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent & Kendrick Lamar Win Emmy Awards For Super Bowl Halftime Show

September 4, 2022 By Chad Kiser

Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar & 50 Cent have won two Creative Arts Emmy’s in both the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) and Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special categories with their historic performance during the Pepsi Halftime Show of Super Bowl LVI.

The collective of musical icons put together a monumental halftime performance during the Pepsi Halftime Show of Super Bowl LVI between the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals on February 13, 2022.

The show opened up with an instrumental rendition of “Nuthin’ But A G Thang” as Dre and Snoop appear on top of the legendary Compton dance club Eve After Dark marquee, a call back to the club Dr. Dre used to DJ at in his early years, before sliding into versions of “The Next Episode” off Dre’s 1999 album 2001, and “California Love” from 2Pac‘s 1996 album All Eyez On Me on Death Row Records.

As the pair ended their opening set, they point down to the next room of the set, and an upside-down hanging 50 Cent rolls into his 2003 hit-single “In Da Club”, and performs in the midst of a throng of sexily-clad dancers.

Up next, the Queen of Soul, Mary J. Blige, performs her 2001 Dr. Dre-produced hit-single “Family Affair”, before transitioning into “No More Drama” and ending her set dramatically falling onto her back after rocking her set as the only female performer during the halftime show.

Kendrick Lamar came on next with a high-energy performance of “m.A.A.d City,” off his 2012 album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, followed by the hit “Alright,” from the Grammy Award-winning To Pimp A Butterfly album.

Led in by his hook from “Forgot About Dre”, Eminem exploded onto the scene with the Grammy Award-winning “Lose Yourself”, as Anderson .Paak plays the drums during the set.

Closing out the show, Dr. Dre slides over to the piano and plays a short piece of 2Pac’s “I Ain’t Mad Atcha” before deftly sliding into playing the keys of his 2001 lead-single “Still D.R.E.”, and moving back up to the top of the stage to perform the song alongside a Crip Walking Snoop Dogg.

Congrats to Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar & 50 Cent!
